To Mr Darwin Grays Inn Newcas[tle] 2nd Feb[ua]ry 1765 London Sir Inclosed herewith is a copy of the full abstracts, which I received last night from Mr Ch[ristophe]r Johnson, of the surrenders of Sir William Blacketts Estates in the manors of Stanhope & Wolsingham and which I hope will enable you to make out the title to the Copyhold part of Woodcroft. I find my Brother has got the Attorney generals opinion about the Lead way; but unluckily he has given no answer to the principal Query that was put to him, to wit, whether we could, by the way of Information, proceed to perpetuate the testimony of our old witnesses. This is what will answer Sir W[alte]r Blacketts purpose better than indicting the road or bringing particular Actions against those who have taken acknowledgements within these 12 or 13 years from the Lead Carriers. This. _ is a matter of great – consequence to Sir Walter, and therefore I suppose you will hear further from my Brother about it, in order to have an answer to the principal Question contained in the case.
