Mr William Alvey Darwin Newcas[tle] 23rd June 1764

Gray’s Inn London

Sir Sir Walter Blackett has taken the State of the case about the mines in the freeholds in Hexham Manor with him to Hexham for Mr Ellis to examine it and it will be returned you next week. But in the mean time desires you will be getting the search made for the Several Grants of Estates in Hexham and Anick Grange Manor that are prior to the Grant of the Manor itself. If you meet with Harwood Sheel or Whitfield pray send copies or full abstracts of them, in the first place : and as to all the others Sir Walter would have copies or full abstracts of them as you think will be best. But if you find that they are all in the same form then the parcels only of each grant may be sufficient.

I have received of Mr Greenwell the three pounds nine shillings and four pence for Roger Crosby’s Receipt and have placed it to your credit. P.S. The Estates excepted in the Grant will not affect the present Question. Yet if you meet with Westwood which is one of them you may send the parcels which make up the £7.6s.8d mentioned in the said Exception. I am etc H R

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
