To Mr Darwin - Greys Inn London Newcas 3d April 1772

Sir

Since your Letter of the 23d. July last Mr. Cooksons Money has been paid off so I suppose this quars remittance will be £27. 10s. 0d less than formerly and that £288. 11s. 6d will do. but I shall not send you a bill till I hear from you on this Subject

Sir Walter Blackett who still continues out of Order thinks the Company of his Nephews would be of Service to him, if it suited their Convenience to come & stay with him a while here, as his coming to London is uncertain. He therefore desires as he cannot write himself that you will wait upon Sir John and Mr. Trevelyan & acquaint them of this & that he could wish they would order their Affairs so as to stay or return as occasion may be. But he desires you and they will take care that he may have a Letter of their coming a day or two before they arrive - And less Mrs. Scott should hear of Sr Walters Illness & imagine it worse than it really is he desires you will wait upon her & tell her that the hurry and the Anxiety occasioned by the Bridge and other public business has discomposed him a little but that he hopes a little rest, the Company of his friends & riding about will relieve him.

The inclosed Engagement of Sir Walter to pay the Revd. Mr. <..> Hudson £30 a Year Sir Walter thinks should be examined into . for tho Mr. Hudson gave it up on getting the Schoolmasters place at Hallifax Yet if that place is only upon Subscription or other uncertain terms and not by Engagement of a certain Sum to make up £50 a Year to him with the Curacy Sir Walter thinks this Annuity ought to be mentioned to him & all the Arrears thereof paid up deducting only the Twenty Guineas endorsed and accordingly Sir Walter desires you will write to Mr. Hudson to know definitely the Nature of the Schoolmasters place he has accepted & then to let him know your opinion whether his Intention in granting Mr. Hudson this Annuity is fulfilled

PS. have you heard anything more about my Brother. for he has not written any Thing yet to any body here. ? I am etc

                                                         HR

A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
