Letter – Henry Richmond to William Darwin – 6 May 1768

To Mr Darwin Grey’s Inn London                                                          Newca[stle] 6th May 1768

Sir

Sir Wr Blackett, by an Indorsement, has enabled me to place Mr Trevelyan’s Annuity to his Acco[un]t notwithstanding the omission he made of my name in the receipt so I have given your Acco[un]t credit for the value of it, to wit, Sixty two pounds ten shillings. I have also given your Acco[un]t Credit, as I wrote you I would do in my Letter of 26th Ult[im]o, for the three hundred & Thirty three pounds for which you sent me a receipt on Acco[un]t of the quarterly payments you are to make in London for Sir Wr Blackett to 30 June next. thinking as I had charged you with the whole Bill on Plumb & Browne, that this is a better Way than to divide the Bill.

As you say you propose to pay the Mortgagees of  East Kenton their int[e]r[es]t of £280 rather than ask them to wait any longer time, & as I have not yet heard from Mr Wilson of Leeds upon the Subject tho’ I wrote him on the 2 April about it; I have here inclosed you my Bill on Plumb & Browne for £280 payable Twenty five days after this date which I desire you will place to my Acco[un]t & advise me of the receipt of. this Bill will come in time to enable you to pay Mr Savage’s half year’s int[e]r[es]t due this day.

As Sir Edwd Blackett has bought his 150 Acres tithe free how will he in future time be able to support his Exemption unles he pays part of the Modus or can shew by his Deed that it is covered by the Modus for the other part of Fenwick? But then on the other hand can a Modus be divided without endangering the prescription? I am etc    HR
