Letter – Henry Richmond to William Darwin – 9 May 1768

To Mr Darwin Greys Inn London                                                           Newca[stle] 9th May 1768

Sir

I have received Sambrooke Freeman’s receipt for One hundred and forty pounds & Richd Glover’s receipt for one hundred & forty pounds for their half year’s int[e]r[es]t of their joint Mortgage on East Kenton due from Sir Walter Blackett on the 27th March last; which two sums I have given your Acco[un]t Credit for. & we must take Care, before Sir Walter executes the Conveyance Deeds to make Mr Wilson repay this money, which we can the better do as he has not yet entred to the receipt of any Rents or profits of the Estate: but it appears to me to be a strange Way of proceeding in him, to pay his Money for the Equity of Redemption of this Estate & covenent to pay the Mortgage on it with all int[e]r[es]t from the 18th Novemr last as soon as the Conveyances can be perfected and yet not give any of us the least answer or Satisfaction of any kind concerning them, tho’ he has every thing he can desire to enable him to form a judgement of the Title and to expedite those conveyances – I have wrote again to him and hope I shall receive an Answer in a few posts.

I observe what you say about the Notice you have given to pay in Mrs Idle’s money on the 2d Novemr next. I suppose it is to be paid in London & if so shall take Care to remit you accordingly But I hope I shall have the pleasure of seeing you here before that time & then we can talk of this & other matters.
