To Mr Jn Maule Ravensworth Castle May 14th 1737 Sr, I recd Your Kind Favour dated the 7th April last only on the 7th Inst but where it had laid I know not I have many times thougt within my Selfe Since I left Greenwich I had done Something very Disoblidging to Mr Maule or that he was Dead for I never look out more for a Letter from any body than I did for yours, and when I recd it was very glad to hear you was well & all friends at Greenwich, but I am very Sorry for Mrs Maules Indisposition at that time but I hope She has Recovered that, She has too much fatigue with the Children & takes too much Care, of this I hope Mr Maule will Ease her, Sure She deserves it in my Opinion. I Sent the Doctor a kitt of Salmond I am Sure I ordered him one above two Months Since & I neither can hear of it, being Ship’d from Berwick nor of its being come to hand. I Directed it to be left at Mr Robert Wilsons Corn factor in Mark Lane & desired it to be Sent him to Greenwich but as it is so long a time Since I Expected he had gott it & he has not I am Afraid it Spoyled lost or Mislaid, pray my humble Service to him for I am Ashamed of his & your Kindness while with you I am Sorry you have so little hopes of Succeeding for an Allowance for your Clerk, Surely you will gett it the desire or Demand being so Reasonable Mr Sands Observations in the House was neither Levelled at Your Salary nor ours but at those that have great Sums & does little Worke, tho’ I think it no more than a Reward for the Long & Hazardous Services they have done I never heard a word that the Directors had Allowed Mr W--son £50 till I had reced Yours I am very well Pleased as they thought fitt so to doe The Copy of Mr Watsons Arrears was Sent abt a Month Since to Mr Corbett. I will let you know abt Mr Fell in a post or two I always thougt your Pd was to have Sent me his Bill upon him & that I was to Endeavour to gett it. Believe me Mr Maule Ill leave no Stone Unturned to Serve your Friend.
