Arthur Mowbray Esqr. Durham N.Castle 16th. Septr. 1801- Sir I wrote to you on the 22d. ulto. enclosing a Bill amount £75-1-2 to pay ½ a year’s Moor Master’s Rent due to the Bishop of Durham, but have not recd. your Acknowledgement of the Receipt of the same which you will be pleased to send me.- Coln. Beaumont is desirous of having the Lease of Kilhope & Welhope renewed, subject to the Condition of giving up to the Lord Bishop of Durham (should it be required) such part of the common as may fully answer the several Purposes intended for the building a Chapel, Houses & Ground for the Chaplain & Schoolmaster; but Coln. Beaumont can not consent that it should conclude any part of the enclosed Ground, as it would very materially affect his Works.- This Lease was originally granted by the Bishop for the Accomodation of his Lessee of the Mines, & after an Improvement had been made & Houses built for that Purpose at a considerable Expence, it would be very hard on Colonel Beaumont to be deprived of the most valuable & necessary part of the Ground for his Works. I am &c. J.E.B.
