Copy of a letter from John E.Blackett Esq Newcastle 18th. Jany 1799 Sir Since my annexed Letter to you I have been favord with your Letter of the 16th Instant, I have been so much indisposed as to confine me to the House ever since I had the pleasure of seeing you until this Morning, when I saw Mr Williamson and Mr Bell called on me; had I been in Health I would certainly have attended the Meeting, but in that case I could not have acquiesced in the question of a division without there being an express clause in the Bill that Coll. Beaumont, as Lessee under the Lord Bishop of Durham, should not be subject to any damages for working &c in the stinted Pastures. On that being consented to Coll. Beaumont will not object to the division and I shall acquaint his Agent at New House Mr Emmerson with the same. I am sorry to hear Mr Shaftoe should address the Meeting in such indecent and very improper Terms. As to Mr Wallis, he is very troublesome but of very little consequence. I am Sir Your most obed Servt. John E Blackett. To Mr. Mowbray
