Charles Bowns Esq Newcastle 9th. July 1803 Bank top, Barnsley Yorkshire.- Dear Sir I wrote to you by the last Post & enclosed Copies of my two Letters to Coln. & Mrs. Beaumont. I likewise gave Directions that the Newcastle Paper should be sent you: - I have this Day the Favor of your Letter of the 7th. Inst. & observe the Contents. – I send you herewith a Copy of Mr. Burdons last Letter to Coln. Beaumont & likewise the Bank Accot. got from them this day, with our Remarks on the same, an Account of the several Sums that are & will become due for Lead, with my Remarks, & an Account of the several Payments which will become due from Coln. Beaumont until the 1st. Octr., exclusive of what he may have Occasion for on his private Account, from both which & his Information, you may form a Judgement what Loan may be required to enable Coln. Beaumont to discharge the several Calls on him for his Lead Concerns, as well as his private Affairs; you will observe in my former Letter to Mrs. Beaumont, my Opinion of the Bank of Sir Wm Loraine & Co. & what they did to assist us; I think it will be for the Interest of the Concern to open an Account with one Bank only, so as to make it well worth their Trouble &c. provided that Bank keeps clear of Commercial Connections as well as all Manner of Speculations I have not yet been informed of the Answer by this days Post from the Gentlemen that went up to Town on the Business, but I am much concerned to find that an Extent is come down against the Property of the Partners of the Bank of Surtees’, Burdon & Brandling for a large Sum on Account of the Excise.- You will observe in the Bank Accot. that the Payments made by Morland & Co. we are Strangers to. – I am of your Opinion that the Presence of Coln Beaumont at this Place will be highly necessary & the sooner the better. I am &c. J.E.B. Exclusive of the Balance stated in the Bank Account, there will be the Amount of the Notes taken up by others advanced by Loraine 7 Co. £2,300 - - There are about 20,000 ps. of Lead ready for Sale, but no Demand.-
