Aukland Castle



Sir       Since I had the pleasure of seeing you I sent a Person to Thos. Hepple who makes a favourable Report him; he has for some Years been Complaining & altho’ he is in tolerable Circumstances & has an Allowance from Sir Thos. Blackett yet he almost starves himself for want of Food & Raiment & on that account he Complain’d the more to you, in hopes that by your acquainting me he might have something sent him;  This being the Case I really do not think him in worse state of health than he has been for some time on wch. Account I cannot think of recommending to Sir Thos. Blackett giving more than my last offer for the Exchange of his life.                               I am etc    J. E. Blackett

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
