Mrs. Beaumont, under Cover to Newcastle 28th. Mar. 1802 Coln. Beaumont, Portman Square – London. Dear Madam I am favoured with your Letters of the 23d. inst. & am much concerned to hear that you have been so much indisposed, I sincerely hope that this may find you perfectly well, & that I may soon have a very pleasing Account of you. – It would have been well if Coln. Beaumont had executed the Counterpart of the Leases without these several Queries & Opinions being taken & particularly the shewing them to the Bishop’s Secretary Mr. Burnes After the Bishop has granted Coln. Beaumont the Leases which certainly stood good at all Events, it was not the Business of himself or those concerned for him, to point out the Propriety of a fine being passed &c. &c. at a very considerable Expence as well as Delay.- The late Query to Mr. Williamson he considers as very improper, & if he had not been concerned for Colonel Beaumont as well as for the Bishop of Durham, he would not have answered it; I have enclosed the Case & Opinions under another Cover to Coln. Beaumont, & as Mr. Bowns’s Letter does not relate to any other Business I have not answered it. – The valuation of the several Estates will be postponed till the next year for the Reasons mentioned; in the Interim, Surveys will be taken. I am &c. J.E.B.
