Letter – John Erasmus Blackett to Diana Beaumont – 28 Oct 1801

Dear Madam

      I wrote to you the 19th. inst. to which I refer you.   Mr. Emerson writes me that you & Coln. Beaumont cannot be in any way interested by a Division of Bolyhope Common, neither can you be injured by it, provided a proper Clause be inserted in the intended Bill, impowering you to work [2-3 words missing] without subjecting you to the Payment of any Damage; it was provided against in the former Bill for the Division of Stanhope Common & Stinted Pastures, and I will take Care that the like Clauses be inserted in the Bill for the Division of Bolihope Common, which the Bishop can have no Objection to.-

      When you send me the Names of the two Persons whose Lives you would wish to be put in the new Lease of Kilhope & Welhope with Lintzgarth, I will endeavour to get the Business put forward.-

      I have not heard what was done at the Meeting at Hexham of the Subscribers to the new Branch from Corbridge to Heddon on the Wall, when I do you shall be informed.-

      Since you left the North I have sold Lead & Litharge to the Amount of about £9,000 – –  3,500 Pieces of Lead at the advanced Price of £24. the fo[dde]r. you ordered yours in good time so you will not be charged the advanced Price.   Silver is falling in Price from6s/7d to 6s/4 ½ d p[er] oz. the Price which Mr. Makepeace pays for a Cake of 1240 Ounces sent him this Month, he writes me that he has at present above 14,000 Ounces by him, & that it will be lower.-

I shall be looking for Thos. Crawhall’s Return about the end of next Week.-

      I imagine that Colonel Beaumont will be gone up to Town.   I am &c. J.E.B.
