Dear Madam,

      Inclosed you will receive a Copy of a Letter from the Rev[rend] H. Hardinge Rector of Stanhope respecting the Payment of Poor Rate for the Tithe Ore of Weardale Leadmines & likewise a Copy of his Agreement for the Tithe Ore of those Mines. On examination I find that no Poor Rate has ever been paid for those Mines nor for the Lot & Tithe Ore. You will of Course lay this before Mr Bowns for his Opinion & be pleased to favour me or Mr C. Blackett with an answer.

	I have acknowledged the Receipt of Mr Hardinge’s Letter & advised him of my having laid the Case before you,& that when I receive your Answer he shall be informed.

	I have drawn upon Sir R. C. Glyn Bt. & Co. on your Account for £837-10-0 for the Lot & Tithe Ore, & by the last Post remitted them Bills amo[un]t £12,865-15-11 Particulars as below.

	From the Conversation that I had with you respecting Mr C. Blacketts Application to me for 4,000 P[iece]s of Lead for his Friends in Town I observed that you inclined that they were to have the Quantity at £30 & £31 the Fo[dder]. The advanced Price not having taken Place at that Time the 31st Oct. or 1st Nov. I have accordingly given him an Order for the Quantity, at the same Time I declare that I did not make him such offer, from the Circumstances that I mentioned to you, being unwilling at that Time to dispose of the Quantity; there will still remain about 1,000 P[iece]s with that on the Road which I hope may be bro[ught] down next Month in Case of a Frost, with that of Refined to be made at Blaydon & Allen Mills, will leave near 5,000 P[iece]s & a sufficient Quantity of Refineable Lead to serve till the end of March.
