Sir              Since I saw you I have made further inquiry as to the Moral Character of Mr Harris, & likewise as to his qualifications as a Clergyman, the result of which is much to his Advantage, & I am the more satisfied of his being unexceptionable in both respects that no reasonable can be made against him, & that the Clamour & opposition that has been raised against him is Cruel & unjust; I don’t blame Mr Wilson for endeavouring to promote the Interest of his friend & relation; who may be a deserving Man, but it should not be at the expence of a very Worthy Clergyman, Mr Emerson will wait on you the Certificates etc in favour of the Character & Abilities of Mr Harris wch. I hope may be satisfactory to you & should he be Elected to the Curacy of the Chapel that you will not withhold your Approbation of him. 

    Doctor Dickins dined with me on Monday, I mentioned the Affair to him & he was of Opinion that no reasonable Objection could be made to Mr Harris.  I shall send the Doctor the several Certificates etc after you have perused them to satisfy him that I have not supported an improper Person.    I am  etc       J. E. B.
