Mr. Isaac Hunter Newcastle 14th. March 1801

Dukesfield

Mr. I: Hunter

I find that both Thos. Atley and Thos. Fairlamb are very improper Persons for keeping an Account of the Lead, from their frequent Mistakes and Neglects which you must be sensible of yourself, on which Account I would have you immediately apply to -- Ellerington at the Bank foot (who takes an Accot. of a part of the Lead Company’s Lead) and in Case he will undertake to keep an exact Account of Coln., Beaumont’s Lead, to agree with him on the best terms that you can, I immagine that he will be well satisfied with £10 or ten Guineas pr. Annm. – I am not a little surprised that Allenheads Mill was off work on Tuesday & Wednesday last, when there was plenty of Ore and of Water, what could be the Occasion of it? Allen Mill will be off work in a fortnight for want of Ore, if it should not be sent from Coalcleugh or Wearale, it must be sent from Allenheads without Loss of time

Mr. Harrison cannot execute your Order for the Iron Castings, so you must apply to Mr. Cookson’s Foundary in the Close. – Mr. Harrison will send you his bill for what you have already got from him, which on your examining and sending it me, with an Accot. of the old Castings got from Dukesfield, I can settle with him.

      I am &c. J.E.B.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
