Mr Isaac Hunter at Newcas 8th Decemr 1781 Dukesfield Sir As the Price of Lead is likely to keep up I would recommend it to you to keep all the Hearths going briskly that we may have a good Stock against the Carriage may start in the Spring which in Case of a favourable Season I hope will be early & to induce them to it I shall have no Objection to advance them some Money on that reason. I am informed that the Grove discovered near Newbegin is very promising. That they have already raised a pretty large Quantity of Ore which tho not rich in Lead yet the Lead yields 27 Ounces of Silver p Fother. I understand the Ore is purchased by the Persons who have erected a Refinery opposite Blaydon at £3.15s.0d p Bing. As the Carriage to Dukesfield would be short may it not be an Object for Sir Thomas Blackett to purchase the Ore provided it can be had at a reasonable Price. Pray give me your Thoughts on the Subject & if you should be of that Opinion you may without Difficulty procure a Sufficient Quantity to make an Assay from which we may be able to form a Judgement what offers to make.
