Mr. John Bell	Hexham Abbey N.Castle 22d. June 1801

Dr. Sir

I received your Letter & observe what you say respecting the letting the Tithes of Hexham It was by Colonel Beaumont’s Direction that those Tithes were to be valued, at the same time intending to let the Occupiers have their own Tithes at a reasonable rate; If the present Tenants have them again at the same Rent, I do not see any Benefit arising to Coln. Beaumont by having them valued, nor for what Purpose it will be, after the Directions which have been given, I do not find that any discressionary Power is lodged with me, to act otherwise: So, in Case the present Tenants should give more Rent, of Course the Occupiers must pay more for their Tithes. I am going to the North tomorrow on Business & shall not return till the 4th. July. I am &c. -J.E.B.
