Sir John Trevelyan Bart . Newcastle Jany 13th 1784

D[ea]r Sir I wrote to you the 28th Ulto. to wch. I refer you. I have laid the Article between the late Sir Walter Blackett & Sir Edwd. Winnington (as Trustee for Sir Arthur Blount) before Mr. Fawcett & he is of Opinion that Sir Wr. Blount may Compel you either to Pay the £25000 on the 6th of Feby. next or to Pay him 5 P[er] Cent Inter[est] from that time, but Mr. Fawcett Recommends that you should Write to him & offer him 4½ P[er] Cent that if he shou’d refuse to accept of that Interest, (wch. we expect will be the Case) that you Submit to pay him 5 P[er] Cent until such time as by the Sale of Longwitton, or Ord, or both these Estates, that you are enabled to Pay of that Mortgage, For Mr. Fawcett agrees with me in Opinion, that even in Case the Sum cou’d be procured at 4½ P[er] Cent (wch. we do not apprehend that it can at present) that the Expenses attending the Transfer of the Mortgage with Procuration Money etc wou’d amount to as much or more than the differance of the Interest. Inclosed you have Copy of my Letter to Mr. Darwin & Mr. B. Cheales Answer. Mr. Heron has wrote to Mr. B. Cheales requesting that he will give you an Account of the Sum that the late Mr. Darwin had in his name in the 3 P[er] Cent Com. with the time of making the Purchase etc etc. Mr. Heron says that Mr. Cheales cannot well refuse giving you this Information. I mentioned the Affair to Mr. Fawcett who recommends that when you are in Town, that you go to the Bank with the Probat of Sir W. Bt.’s Will & the receipt of the Cashire of the Bank for this Sum & Mr. Darwin’s Declarn. of Trust & There Examine whether that Sum still stands in Mr. Darwin’s Name, or has been transferred by him to Sir W. Bt. & sold out by him: As the Receipt of the Cashires, may be of great Conseqence I shall not inclose it to you till I hear that you are in Town. Mr. Winship was with me the 10th. inst. & paid me £200 on Acct. of Rents. I have remitted Mr. Wall £200 on Acct. of your Quarterly Payments & shall in a few days send him a Bill for £300 to pay Sir Edwd. Winningtons Inter[est] wch. will be due the 6th Feby. next. I am Dear Sir etc John E. Blackett
