Letter – John Erasmus Blackett to London Lead Company – 19 Mar 1791

for Smelting down Lead St Martins Lane London



Gentn	I am favoured with your letter of the 17th inst[an]t & observe that Messrs Lancaster & Maltby attended the Court to purchase Lead but that you were not inclined to sell, there being every prospect of the Markets rising; Mr Hall has made application to me for the like purpose on Accot of Lancaster & Co w[hi]ch offer I declin’d for the same reason _ The Purchase Money for the several Lots I understand is to be paid into Chancery on or before the 25th ins[tan]t  Eden Ridley & Co have wrote to Castell & Co to pay £2045 the Amount of the Lots purchased by Sir Thos Blackett & Mr <Wren> Agent for the Bacon Family has wrote to Mr Van Heythuyson Bidford Row to acquaint him with the same so that I am in hopes that there will be no delay in this business which might possibly occasion a fresh opening in Chancery - Mr Wilson & Mr Heron of this place, who are concerned for Sir Thos Blackett in Law Matters, are of Opinion that it would be Advisable for Sir Thos Blackett to pay the whole Sum for £2360 for a Moiety of all the Lots the Conveyance of which to be made to him & for Sir Thos to convey to The Governor & Co the Lot 4 on the Receipt of £630 _ I have desired Mr Wren to mention this matter to Mr Van Heythuyson, if he should not object to this mode I do not imagine that you will _ When I can give you any further information respecting the Lead Trade you may depend on having it                 I am etc    J.E.B
