Gentlemn	Your Letter of the 4th inst with a Copy of yours to Mr Beaumont Containing a variety of Charges against me of Partiality in the disposal of the WB Lead came safely to hand, & I hope I have fully Answered them to the Satisfaction of Mr Beaumont to whom I refer you.

	I must Confess that I was not a little Surprized at the Charges alledged against me, & the matter has given me much uneasiness, being Conscious of not having given any Cause for them; for I have always Acted to the best of my Power for the Interest of the Concern that I have been interested with, & at the same time with Impartiality to the Buyers; on which Account I must think myself unhandsomly  treated; you will therefore excuse me in not saying more on the Subject as I cannot Submit to be accountable to the several purchasers of Lead for the Sales that I made etc.                                                                    I am etc    J.E.B

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
