Sir Thos Blackett Barot Newcas 15th Octor 1783 Bretton Yorkshire Dr Sir I received your Letter of the 12th instant & am sorry we differ in Opinion with respect to the Proposals that Mr Anderson makes. I was indeed induced to favour it, thinking it more for your Interest than what you insist on as you will see by the State of it at foot; however should you be still of the same Opinion I shall acquaint Mr Anderson that you will not allow him any Interest for the 2000 Guineas which he pays before his Entering into Possession of the Premises & that you do not expect any Interest for the 2000 Guineas for which he is to give his Bond for the first Year but that he is to pay that Sum during the Course of the second Year with Interest for the same at 4pCt. I observe what you say with respect to the Lead Trade as well as to the keeping as secret as possible what Quantities of Lead we may have at Blaydon & on the Road. I am obliged to you for the Confidence you repose in me with regard to the disposal of your Lead & you may be assured your Interest shall always be my Guide. It is out of our Power to keep secret the Quantity of Lead at Blaydon for tho we do not divulge it the Buyers of Lead at this Port are informed by their Agents of the Quantity within a Trifle. Mr Mulcaster does not admit them to Examine the Quantity but a person who is Conversant in it may from his Eye form a very good Judgement of it. No offers have yet been made me for Lead for the London Markett but after the discourse I have had with Mr Hall & Mr Blackett on the Subject expect to have some Proposals from them in a few days. The Inclosed is Copy of a Letter I received which merits serious Consideration. I am not <inclinable> to alter the Channel of that Trade for many Reasons but shod the Buyers persist in their Combination to beat down the Prices it may be expedient & adviseable to send a Quantity of lead to London but you shall hear further from me on the Subject.
