Dear Sir

I wrote you the 18th instant to which refer you. The Bishops Secretary Mr Brooks writes me that “ Sir Thomas Blackett must sign an Engagement to deliver up the Leases (upon receiving back the Fines) and making void this whole Business if it shall appear that Mr Trevelyan was not living upon the day the new Leases were delivered”. I have consulted Mr Wilson in this Matter & that there may not be any Delay in this Business he has drawn up a proper Engagement to be signed by you which he sends you this Post & when executed by you it must be inclosed to Mr Nathl Clayton at Greys Inn No 2 Londn.

Mr Clayton the Attorney was going up to Town on Business & I thought it a good Opportunity to send up the old Leases by him he may Compare them with the new Ones see the Latter executed & bring them down. I have got a Bill at the Bank according to the Bishops desire for £1463.19s.9d the Amount of the Fines wch Mr Clayton takes up with him to be paid on the Delivery of the new Leases.

When I have got the new Leases down it will be necessary that you should Execute some Power or Powers of Attorney empowering some Person to take Repossession of the Premises in your Name wch I believe the lawyers Term Livery & Seizin.

These Powers may be executed by you when we meet at Ripon. I propose being there about the middle of next month but you shall hear from me before I go. & am etc JEB
