Dear Sir

	I was Yesterday favoured with your Letter of the 1st instt & am glad to find that you are got to Bretton & are better.  As I was a little doubtfull of Mr Rastricks Abilities for executing the Work proposed I thought it most adviseable to wait till you came into the County when you could have some Conversation with him on the Subject & possibly you may bring Mr Beatson with you who is very knowing in these matters besides his Advice may be of Service with respect to your Mills at Hexham.  Mr Laidman of Hexham is dead & I told that Mr Stephens who purchased this Presentation has disposed of it but I have not yet heard the Persons Name or Age.  When I know you shall be inform’d.  There will be a Meeting of Chapmans Creditors the beginning of this Month when I shall attend with Mr Heron & you shall be advised of the Result, he has acted in a very knowish manner & I wish the Law could punish him.  Now the Roads are good your Lead is coming down to Blaydon very fast.  There is no Alteration in the Prices since I wrote to you, viz Common £17 Refined £17 1/4  p Fother & Litharge 17 1/2  p Ton.  I have sold to Carr & Widdrington Mosley & Airey etc about 1500 ps & to Mr Hall 100 Casks Litharge.  Since the last parcel to Mr C Blackett it will be about Ten Days before the Quantity is come down to Blaydon which will Complete the Quantities sold and there will be near 300 Casks Litharge to make.  Inclosed you will receive a Bill drawn by Messrs Bell Cookson & Co on Castell & Co dated 2d instant at 25 days date for £1000; the Receipt of which you will please to acknowledge.  I shall pay Sir John Trevelyan 3 or 4 Thousand Pounds this month or the next in part of your Bond to him.      I am etc  JEB
