Sir Thomas Blackett Barot Newcastle 9th June 1781 Bretton near Wakefield Yorkshire Dear Sir I received your Favour of the 3d instant & observe that you are arrived at Bretton & that Mr & Mrs Bosville & Miss Wentworths are staying with you. Your Lead Stewards were down here last Month, there was little Alteration in the Mines. Weardale was rather improving. The War obliges me to give longer Credit so shall not have it in my Power to make the Lead Pays before August. The Pays for the Several Lead Mines & Mills will amount to £25498 which I shall be enabled to make at that Time & shall send you a Bill for £500 some time this Month. I lately sold 7000 ps refin’d Lead at £14.17s.6d p Fother, 2000 ps Common & 1000 ps Slag Lead at £14.12s.6d to Doctor Hall. I expect the Price of Lead will keep up but the wet Weather we have lately had will retard the Carriage of the Lead much. I observe you have had a Letter from the Committee of Saint Andrews Parish in this Town soliciting your Subscription for An Organ. Your House & Gardens are in that Parish & as you are an Encourager of Musick the Parishoners are in hopes that you will be at Unison with them. I acquainted Mr Wilson with what you say, he is at present confined with the Gout. I am etc JEB
