Sir Thomas Blackett Bart. Bretton Yorkshire Newcastle Septr 9th . 1785 [Note: re clerks copy below 16th should be 6th and “17th etc” should probably be “27th etc”] Sir I wrote to you the 16th inst to which I refer you. I have had another letter from Mr Stephenson of Hull, & a letter from Mr John Breare of Middleham Secry. to the Mineral Society acquainting me that the Meeting at Middleham will be on Thursday 29th inst. as I am under a necessity of being at this place on the 30th inst. in the evening, I have alter’d my Plan & intend waiting on you at Bretton on the 17th or 18th inst. We had a dreadful fire in this Town this morning at 2 O Clock Mr Forster’s New Sugar House near the Mansion House was Burnt to the ground together with a large Brew House & two or three Houses, the Sugar House was Insured for £7000 at the Sun Fire Office London.
