Mr. Thos. Emerson N.Castle 20th. Octr. 1801 Newhouse Weardale Mr. T. Emerson I understand it is intended that Application shall be made to Parliament, to divide & enclose Bollyhope Common, I desire that you will without Loss of time inform me how far Coln. Beaumont will be interested in such Division & point out to me the probable Advantage or Disadvantage which may arise from it to his Mine Concerns in Weardale.- I am very sorry to observe that the Ore from Weardale still comes to the Mills in as foul and Bad a State as ever; if this is not remedied and that very soon, some other Measures must be adopted; we are very much deceived in our Calculations on the Quantity of Ore raised, when 1/5th & sometimes 1/4th is Stone & Dirt; this Evil I am informed is not the Case at the Mines of the Lead Company, I am sorry that it is at Coln. Beaumonts. I am &c.- J.E.B.
