Dear Sir I went to Hexham on Wednesday & returned with Mr Williamson the next day, I have the pleasure to tell you that the dinner at the Abbey gave great satisfaction to the Freeholders present about 80. Reed provided a plentifull dinner which was well drest & served, The Wine etc was good, the Company had a good dose of it, & parted in good humour between 8 & 9 o’clock; Mr L Spark, Mr Tweddel of Threapwood several respectable Freeholders dined with us; Mr Hunter was prevented by Company at his House, Mr Wastell, Major Surtees & many others by the Fair at this place, on the whole, the day past over very well.
The very wet season is a great impediment to our get[in]g the Lead down to market which we have already sold, some small quantities in other hands have lately been sold at £18 per Fo[the]r & should the prospect of a peace brighten, I have no doubt of its advancing to £20. I shall in a few days pay to Messrs Surtees, Burdon & Co on your account, Bills & Cash to the amount of £8000 & in the course of this month & the next about £28000 in Bills due in Jany. In your next letter please to acquaint me on what <foot[in]g> The Revd Mr Carr of Allenheads is to be from the first of Oct: last. Mrs Beaumont told me but I really forgot?
