Dear Sir

      I have been favoured with both your Letters, and I observe what Mr. Allgood alledges in Justification of his Conduct; he certainly was much dissatisfied on Mr. Emerson’s Appointment to succeed his Father as principal Agent, but no promise of the kind had ever been made him; he gave no regular Notice of quitting the Employ, until he had engaged himself to Lord Mulgrave, & then he came over to acquaint me; altho’ the Notice was short, I did not oppose his leaving the Concern, knowing that Emerson & him had long been on bad Terms, at the same time I did suppose that he would settle every Matter with Mr. Emerson respecting the Concern in which he was entrusted; & deliver up all the Papers & Accounts &c. which he promised me to do; if he has not done it it certainly was the Duty of Mr. Emerson to charge him with the same before his leaving the Concern, specifying what he withheld.-

Mrs. Forster’s Bond has been sent to Mr. Bell.-

      The Lead Company have made a Sale of 10,000 ps. Lead to the London Houses at £31-10-.. the Fo.[dde]r – I have sold 500 ps. half refined to Doubleday & Easterby at the same Price, I declined selling them a larger Quantity; I have no Doubt of obtaining that Price at least, for as much as we can expect down during the Course of the year.-

      Bills have been paid into the Bank the last Week amounting to the Sum of £43,983 -.. -.. at the Dates when due of Nov.r Dec.r Jan’y & Feb.y. - £1400 of which Sum is already due.   I am &c. -J.E.B.



Inclosed I send you a Copy of the Bankers Account to the 30th. Sep.r - Balance in your Favour £23237 – 12 -8.
