Colonel Beaumont Newcastle 5th. April 1800 Portman Square London Dear Sir I wrote to you the 2d. ins. to which I refer you. I have this Day wrote a very pressing Letter to Mr. Isaac Hunter to exert himself in getting the Lead down to Blaydon & the Ore to Dukesfield, there are at present about 15,000 Pieces on the Road, besides 14,000 Pieces at Dukesfield. I would recommend for the Future the Lead Carriage should be advertised from the 1st. May to be let & left open and that a proper Person should be appointed by you to have the whole Superintendence of the whole of the Lead Carriage with a sufficient Salary (as he must keep a Horse) and to be accountable to me from Time to Time, by which Means your Lead will be brought down much sooner to Market, it will in a great Measure prevent the Loss on the Road (which has been considerable) and it will enable Mr. Hunter to attend more closely to the Business at the several Lead Mills. I wish that you would send me down the late Bill (or the Acts in Case they are passed) with Respect to the Corn Mills and the Enclosure of Waste Ground for the Grouths of Potatoes. I am &c. J.E.B.
