Thos Richd Beaumont Esqr Newcastle 8th April 1793 at Messrs Ransom Moreland & Co’s Bankers London Dear Sir In consequence of the Bank of Messrs Forster & Co of this place having stopt payment this Morning there has been a Meeting of the Gentlemen of this place & Neighborhood & the Merchants & Traders, when they came to the Resolutions that I now inclose you, which is hoped may be the means of preventing any great run on the four other Banks, which I believe will be safe; those of Surtees & Burdon & Ridley & Cookson & Co after the Resolutions come to this day certainly will not be effected but are perfectly safe; Forster & Co have submitted their Books to the Inspection of their Creditors & its asserted that they after discharging all demands on them will have a Surpluss of upwards of £25000 & Mr Forster has made an offer of Assigning over to Trustees his Real Estate for the security of the Creditors of the Bank. Application has this day been made to me by Messrs Surtees & Burdon to apply to you in their Names requesting the favour of you to permit that £3000 or £4000 of your Money now resting in the Hands of Messrs Ransom Morland & Co may for a short Time be transferred to the Bank of Messrs Smith Pane & Smiths; you will be perfectly safe in so doing, it will confer a great favour on Messrs Surtees & Burdon & the Money will be ready against the pay. I am etc J.E.B
