Mr Darwin Hatton Street London Newcas 24 Decr 1776

Sir I received your Letter of the 5th instant & approve much of what you have done with regard to paying Mrs Cazal the Sum I remitted you rather than waiting for an Explanation whether Mr Swinburns Bond was for 1400 or £800 _ I was led into this Mistake by Mr Swinburn who told me that it was only £800 Mr Gibson has not yet had an Answer from Sir Francis Blake about the paying off his Mortgage on Netherwitton Estate but Sir Francis agreed with Sir Wr Blackett the 3rd Augst. last to take the Money. viz. £9100 at Childs the Banker on the 15 Febry 1777 so he certainly will not make any Objection; but as he is a very particular Man I do apprehend that he will not Execute the Deed till he hears from his Banker that the Money is paid into his hands so we propose to send Sir Wr Blackett two Bonds bearing date the 15 Febry to execute. the one for 9100 the other £900 _ these Bonds must be returned to me and on their being delivered to the Miss Ellisons of this Place they will give an Order for the Payment of those Sums at Mr Childs on 15 Febry next or rather the Order will be from the Bank here If Sir Francis Blake would Execute the Deed & send it to his Banker in London to deliver up on the Receipt of the Money it would save some trouble but this I do not expect he will do; however the Miss Ellisons (to whom the Mortgage is to be transferred) will be satisfied with Sir Walter Blacketts Bond for £9100 till the Deeds are executed by all the Parties. Inclosed you have Messrs. Bell Cookson & Cos bill on on Messrs. Castell & Co for Three hundred Pounds on Sr Wr Blacketts private Account which you will please to Credit for the same advising him of it. On the 3 Janry next I shall remit you Bills for Sir Walter Blacketts Quarterly Payments Doctor Thurlows Composition & Sir Edwd Winningtons Intrest I wish you many happy returns of the Season & am etc J E B.
