Dr Sir I am favoured with your letter of the 14th Instt & observe the Contents. Mr Heron has been Consulted, but he is ignorant of the Amount of the Arrears of the Annuity as well as the cause of its being withheld since the time of Mrs Stackpoles coming of Age, he is at a loss to give Advice in that Matter & apprehends that in Case of a Distress being made that there may be a difficulty in getting proper persons to enter into a Security for a Sum which may be considerable Mr H Williamson is at Durham on a Commission & does not return till Saturday on my Receiving such information from you as you may think necessary I shall consult Mr Williamson what steps it may be advisable for us to pursue & acquaint you with the same _ I have paid to Messrs Surtees & Co the several Sums that you mention on Accot of Thos R Beaumont Esqr next Month I shall be under a necessity of making a Carriage Pay which with the Corn that I have purchased will Amount to upwards of £2000 _ I met the Lead Stewards at Hexham on Monday last & paid them £3470 for Subsistence for the Workmen who are at present quiet & satisfied except a few Refractory men in Weardale who I have directed the Agent to discharge I expect to pay about £3000 More to Surtees & Co next Month I am etc J.E.B
P.S. Messrs Surtees & Co have been made acquainted with what you mention as to the manner of charging the Interest in the Accounts, & they say that the Int[eres]t charged upon the Bills which they Received here; was the same to Mr B as if they had stood uncharged, for of course the Int[eres]t ceased upon the Money before Advanced, at the time those Bills were placed to his Credit _ As to the Bills drawn by you they charged them at the time they were charged with them by their Bankers in London & which would make a very Trifling difference in exhausting the Private Accot J.S
