I am this moment honored with your letter and I have also rec[eive]d one from Mr Emm of which the following is a Copy-



Dear Sir

      Since you left Auckland Castle something has dropped from the Bishop which leads me to think he will not be disinclined to treat for £4000 Per ann[um], provided the first payment be to be made on the 2nd of next month, perhaps also He may be prevailed upon to hear what you have to offer on the subject of the Exchange you mentioned. I shall send this by a Friend who is just going to Newcastle & have only time to conclude myself Dear Sir

I propose to wait upon you tomorrow morning, to determine upon this <as> honest attempt and on Thursday go to Auckland and fix, if possible, the Bishop. Under this arrangement you will probably not think it necessary to write immediately to his Lordship. Yesterday I sold 5000 P[iece]s Common Lead @ £38 per fo[dder] & am etc MM

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale.
