Mrs Beaumont Newcastle 9th November 1807 Addressed Col Beaumont Bretton In this and another cover; I beg to transmit the Sales of Lead and Cash Account for last month and to acknowledge the receipt of copies of the Bishop’s last letter and Colonel Beaumont’s reply. I confess Madam that I contemplate with great dismay the issue of the Chancellor’s decision and have thought, and still continue to think that in adopting measures to settle the dispute amicably, your ultimate Interest will be best served. In thus expressing myself I feel confident of not incurring your displeasure as my anxiety arises for the preservation of a Property, certainly the first in point of Value, in the north of England’ Permit me to recommend an early interview with your Council in the Suit, and to obtain their opinion before measures are carried to extremity. I cannot discover that the Bishop did take an opinion after Sir Tho[mas] Blackett’s death respecting the Lot Ore, but enclosed is a copy of one which Mr Blackett obtained from Mr Williamson on account of Sir Tho[mas] Blackett’s name only, being inserted, and not his Heirs. Mr Blackett is informed of the probability of having to give Evidence in London and I am etc MM
