Mr James Finlay Cross Edinburgh NCastle 7 January 1808 I am favoured with your Letter of yesterday and enclosed you will receive the Power of Attorney which was signed by Thomas Richard Beaumont Esq and witnessed by Messrs <Mickle> on the 19 December at Bretton Hall Yorkshire one of the Seats of Mr Beaumont; the witnesses father and son are employed laying out the pleasure grounds. Mr Beaumont represents the county of Northumberland in Parliament where he possesses another seat or residence called Hexham Abbey: he formerly had the 21st Light Dragoons but resigning the command, he lost the Rank altho many thro’ Courtesy still call him Colonel. The Witnesses have not followed the directions given of writing the word witness at the end of the names which I am informed is <…te> by the Steward of Mr Beaumont: this deviation I hope is mot material. As you are possessed of the circumstances, for which this Power is given, it is not necessary for me to say more at present, than that I shall be glad to know what Evidence will be required and when.
