Mr Walton presents his Compliments to Mr Bates and begs leave to express his hopes that he will see him at the Meeting at Haydon Bridge on the 6th of next month upon the business relative to the Division of Grindon & Langley South Common and Thorngrafton Common and he flatters himself that Sir Edward Blacketts determination in favor of the whole will be had before that time. Mr Bates will observe that the Meeting is advertised in all the Newcastle Papers. Mr Walton thinks that Sir Edward ought scarcely to be considered as a Proprietor having right of Common upon Langley South Common as Sillywray only as he believes can have any right there and that Estate as he is told is Customary and held of Sir Edw[ar]d as of his Manor of Henshaw but as to that Mr Bates must himself know best. Mr Walton will be glad to hear from Mr Bates as soon as his convenience will admit. Mr W. took the liberty of sending Mr Bates the Proposals for the intended Divisions, last Week. 24 Septem[be]r 1792
Mr Bates was probably George Bates, agent for Sir Edward Blackett of Matfen, who had an interest in this proposed common enclosure
