Ravensworth Castle 28 July 1739 To Mr Jno Newelt at Naward Castle near Carlisle Sir We reced. Yours of the 10th inst. but being since that time much from home could not answr. it sooner, so hopes youle Excuse us in point of times. As to the right Mr Drydon pretends to have upon Grindon Common by Vertue of Mosshemell estate we doe not justly know, but we have always been Inform’d he had none, & we believe he has no Antient Title deeds that mention any. We have also been Informed by an Old Bayliff that formerly there used to be paid 10s a Year to the Derwentwater family for Mosshemell, & now he says only 6s/8d to the Hospital a Year, & perhaps it is this sume in his Conveyance deed, but 10s in the Antient ones but this we are not Certain of. His goods was Impounded about two Yrs. since & he Repleved them; but after that proceeded no Further, Sr. Edwd. Blackett then proposed & agreed to joyn wth. the Hospital in the Expence of Trying it & Mr. Jno. Airey of Newcastle was Employed in the Cause. This Year his goods was Impownded & either he or his Tenant thought fitt to pay poundage for the Tresspass to the Hospitals Bayliff. This being about as much as we know of the Matter, we hope it will satisfy you, if it should not, we shall be ready to Inform you further from any other Information we may have or gett, as also any other thing that we can where you are Concerned & doe not Doubt your Readiness to doe the same to us. We are Sr Your Very Hmble Servts NW, HB
