Ravensworth Castle. January 16th. 1740/1 To Mr John Strangewaye Sir I hope youle Excuse my Silence for I realy waited till I could gett something of a Rental & Schedule of the Chapplery of Ancroft so as my P.tner & I might Judge a Little of the Truth of it. we have often heard of the land Tax being Unequally laid on which by this so appears to us, & we hope you will see it your Selfe. As to the Rents we are Afraid theyt are not right our Accot. being but a [Same] one, but we hope you will be able to Sett us right in it, which we will take as a favour & at your Leisure give us a Rental of the Chapplery & the true Sume that was to be raisd for 1740. We have not had a Certain Accot. what Limestones you & Neighbours have had from Scremerston, but please to Examine the following Accot. Viz. Mr John Wilkie for 3 Yrs last past 200 Load a Yr 600 Your Self for 2 Yrs 600 Jno. Pattrick for 3 Yrs 200 Load each Yr 600 Jno. Sibbett for 3 Yrs 60 Load each Yr 180 Chris. Sibbett for 2 Year 50 Load each Yr 100 Hen. Nicholson for one Year 40 2120 If I Remember Right we Promised you & Mr Wilkie yours for 12s per fother or Load, but who these other People are or from what Quarter they come we know not.
