Letter – Nicholas Walton to John Turner – 24 Sep 1792

					Farnacres 24th Septem[be]r 1792

Dear Brother

       You will see by an advertisement in the Newcastle Papers that there is to be a Meeting at Haydon Bridge on the 6th of October to take into consideration the several Proposals made on the part of the Commissioners and Governors of Greenwich Hospital for the Division Allotment and Inclosure of Grindon & Langley South Common and Thorngrafton Common. As this is a Business of much consequence to the Hospital I think it would be well if you could attend the meeting and give your assistance upon the occasion, and I shall hope to hear from you acquainting us that you will do so. I intend being at Langley Mill the Evening before the Meeting which is to be on the 6th at ten o’Clock in the Morning. 

       As you have never wrote since I sent you the Itinerary I know not whether it will be convenient to you and Lady Turner to receive us at Swarland at the Time intended by my Daughter and Self & therefore you will be so good as inform me when you write ab[ou]t the Division. If convenient to Lady Turner my Daughter proposes spending a Week with her and I believe my Son Tom intends his visit as in the Itinerary but that is rather uncertain to me for as he has been at Tinmouth some weeks we see little of him.

       I am extremely concerned to acquaint you that Mr Smeaton was on Sunday Sennt [ie week] struck with an Apoplectic Fit and when my account came from Austhorpe was thought to be in a dying state. He has lost the use of his Right side but can speak and was able to crawl to his Door he having fallen a little way from it upon the Grass and was no way hurt by the fall. He expresses a wish to dye. I am joined by this Family in best regards to you and Lady Turner &
