Ravensworth Castle 24 February 1739/40 To Mr Jos. Pearson, Keswick Mr Pearson We reced. Yours of the 17 Inst & wonder much if Jno. Dixon & Wm. banks should offer to give up <Watsons> Park when they Absolutely took it for 21 Years, but as they have given it up & asks an Abatem<en>t we cannot Agree to that; but we Desire it may be publickly Called a Week before Lett & doe you lett it to the best bidder without favour of Affection & then if they prove to be the best bidders they may have not otherwise. If any other Farms happen to be given up doe the same with them. Ullock Closes & Willyhow parke we hope will Lett for the Rent Mr <Henry> Wrenn pd. for them, but if they are likely to fall short lett them be Publickly Lett. We reced. yours abt. the Wood valued at Thornthwaite & so farr as you went its ell enough, by [sic; ‘but’?] Why did you not include & gett a valuation under these P[er]sons hands <if> were Cutt down & sold since we were Concerned to the time of the valuation sent us & then the whole would have been Compleat, but now it is not pray gett that valued & signed that you wrote to us abt. the Latter End of last year.
