To Mr Joseph Pearson

Mr Pearson

We have information that in the Estates in your Neighbourhood belonging to the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospitall, Severall Persons have of late, and now Continue, to Cutt down Timber & Carry off the same without having a right so to doe, in so much that the Neighbouring People think the offenders will soon Claim as good a right to it as the King himself. We know of no Such practices & hope there is no grounds for such a Complaint, and in order to shew it forth, you are hereby require Imediately to Survey all the Woods in the estates under your Inspection & report to us whether you find any and what Timber to have been Cutt down as aforesaid, and by whom, & to what Uses it has been Converted to, or to whom Sold, within twelve Months last past, or rather from Mayday 1738 to this time. You will be as Expeditious as you Cn & Lett your Report be Coppy’d very fair by your Son & doe you Sign it & you’ll Oblige

Yours &c

Walton & Boag

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
