To Lyonell Vane Esqr.

Sir

We had the Favour of Rec.g Yours of the 12 Inst. desiring to know if the Slaggs or Dross of Copper near Keswick are to be sold. In answer to which we are to Inform you that some time agoe they were Lett at a Certain Duty to a Gentleman who we Expect will begin to work ‘em up this spring. If he does not before mayday they will be advertized again to be lett & then you shall have Notice, they are the very same you mention to be lying in the Road by the River side Leading from Keswick to Penrith, but we believe they are mostly Copper & probably little or no Lead amongst them. We hope this Answer will be satisfactory but if you want any further P.ticulars we shall be glad to give you all the Information we can - & are

      SirYr. most Humb. Servts

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
