Ravensworth Castle November 2d. 1739 To Mr Mannock Strickland Sir We had the favour of yours of the 27 Ulto. last past in ans[we]r to which we begg Leave to Observe that at the time when the £1000 was paid you for Lord Peters Int[erest] you had not produced any Testimonial of Lady Cathrine Radcliffes being alive and that was the reason why it was not paid you alltogether which we apprehend was the Substance of that Lett[e]r which you’ve latly seen. We have had Orders Some years agoe from the Board of Directors in Regard to the payment of this Anuity, which orders we must Strictly pursue & therefore it is not our fault that the Anuity is not yet paid. As by yours we apprehend the Certificate has not been Enter’d with Mr Hunter If her Ladyship refuses being at the Charge we desire you may apply to the Directors for their Orders that the money may be p[ai]d Without Entering the Certificate, or if not and that you are willing to take it in the usual way Mr Skutt will waite upon you & pay it having directions So to doe this post. It is no pleasure to us to give you any Trouble Nor a benifitt to put you to any unnecessary Expences but you must give us Leave to act Pursuant to our Com[miss]ion : and we are Sr Yr.
