Letter – Nicholas Walton to Mr Sample – 4 Feb 1792

Mr Sample

       John Nevin to whom I understand the Chatts wish to assign their lease of Peacock House is now with me as also William Chatt one of the Hospital’s lessees. I find that it is intended that the two survivors of lessees Thomas and Wm Chatt and Widow Chatt shall join us in making an assignment to John Nevin which is proper enough and particularly so as the Widow Administered to the Effects of her husband John Chatt. I can see a point respecting this wch however it is not necessary for me to mention nor you to think about. The only things I have to say to you are what follows.

       If John Nevin is a sufficient Man we shall be glad to have him to be a Tenant instead of the Chatts. The arrear due to 12th May last is £67.18 [s] to which the half years rent of £26.6 due 22nd Nov being added the whole Arrear amounts of £94.4 & that shd at all events be secured to Greenwich Hospital to be pd at the next Rect at Hexham or before and the last ½ years Rent due 12 May 1792 be secured to be pd at Octo 1792 & if you can contrive to get those matters settled we shall be very agreeable to have them so fixed & desire you will employ Mr Ruddock. Mr Chatt says that £5 were pd since you settled <wch is to> the 21 November last and that something is due to him & his brother for carriage of some Lime to the Bush
