Mr Nich[ola]s Ruddock Farnacres 17th Febry 1794

Sir

With the utmost satisfaction I have signed and return you the inclosed respecting Westburnhope and am gratified by having an expectation of the Greenridge and Ardley Claims being given up, but to which I must beg your and Mr Bells attention in order that every thing may be done regularly, so as to be carried properly before the Commissioners. As to the other Claims of Lord Crewes Trustees and Mr Clavering I really trust, that as now we may reasonably expect to have both the Lord and the Lady on our side, nothing can hurt us. I am with best wishes to you and yours

       Sir Your obliged h[um]ble Serv[an]t

       Nich Walton Junr

PS I say nothing about y[ou]r business you last mentioned except that it is clear it must drop.

How I shall be engaged when I come to sell the Wood I cannot say I however must own that I incline to accept your obliging Invitation.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
