To Mr Thomas Simpson

Sir

We reced. yours of the 15th May Inst with Mr Birketts Letter Inclosed, & observe that John Grave & John Fleming have paid you £1-8s -0 & that Frances Lancaster promise payment. She is a power Widdow & being we hope truly Sinsible of her Transgression, we agree to Give her time provided she give you her prom<isor>y note payable at a reasonable distance of time. Mr Birkett verry unjustly says that he had a Liberty from either of us, & to Shew you the Contrary you have a Coppy of a Letter to him on that head, you will therefore on rect. hereof write him that we Expect Imediate payment for the wood he is Charged with. Mr Pearson hade general directions given to Sett the Tennants out wood as it had been Customary as farr as he knew it, & the Ten.ts right & we dont apprehend he has exceeded that order so that Mr Birkett Must be greatly mistaken in his much matter & many particulars.

It is not at all surprizing Alston moor was so disagreeable to you when you last attended the Courts for it is now become the Common run thro this Island. Penrith only being Excepted. You are happy in your Station & we no better here at this time (or very little) than we were at Christmas day.

We are Sr Yr &c N. Walton , H. Boag
Thomas Simpson, the Hospital’s Court Keeper for its Cumberland estates.
