To Mr Tho. Whitefield Ravensworth Castle July 31. 1738 Dear Sir Yesterday Evening I had the Favour of yours of the 29th Inst.with a Copy of Mr Richardsons Letter dated the 20 Inst. The Contents of which I have Communicated to Mr Boag my partner and in Answer we are glad to se[e] Mr Richardson is Sensible of his fault and that he is ready to make you any Satisfaction for the Loss you have Sustained. You are very kind in saying you will do nothing in this affair but what we shall approve of and you may be very well assured of our doing everything on our power to support yours and the Hospitalls Title. The Hospital has been Acquainted with the Affair, to which we have had no answer but we are Satisfyd they will highly Resent the Affront to you, as well as themselves, And as we have not their Resolutions upon it we cannot say they will Approve of making the matter up, However as Mr Richardson seems so desirous of having an end made of the Affair , Mr Boag and I will use our Interest with the Hospital to forgive this fault : the offence they have Comitted is against you particularly in the Law the Goods they waisted being yours, so that whatever Agreem[en]t you make must be an Act of Your Own, and by doing it in the way it is proposed it will answer the purpose, that is Mr Richardson to pay you full damages for the Loss you sustaind to pay all Charges and Acknowledge the fault by an Instrum[en]t under his hand, in which Instrumt. I sho’d be glad to have his Father joyn, but I Fancy that as he is of Age himself it woud be good in Law if he Relinquish Claim himself only whatever Instrumt. is Drawn let it be done by Mr Simpson of Penrith to whom pray send the Inclosed and youll oblige Dear Sir Your hble servt.
