Letter – Nicholas Walton to Tristram Everest – 27 Mar 1793

Mr Everest							Farnacres 27th March 1793



Dear Sir

       I have this day rec[eive]d your agreeable information respecting the Lobleyhill Road, and am much obliged by your attention to my wishes. I do not think, if you find a proper opportunity, that it w[oul]d be amiss to acquaint Mr Skelton of the Clause or Proviso relative to the produce etc from the Mines having been inserted at my instance and of the Clause respecting double Toll having been extended to all Articles instead of being confined to Lead, Lead Ore, etc observing at the same time to him that these Clauses w[oul]d not in the Lobleyhill Road but in the least affect the Interest of Greenwich Hospital but that from what you have understood the Proviso w[oul]d be of use to Mr

Beaumont and that the alteration as to the double Toll Clause was made with a view not only to preserve the Roads but that Lead Lead Ore and Articles connected with the Lead Mines sh[oul]d not be held out to the Public as being more liable to be taxed or charged to the maintenance of a Turnpike Road than other Articles. I do not think but that the communicating of this information to Mr Skelton may be of use as it will shew that tho’ Mr Beaumont is endeavouring to cut your rights by the roots we are endeavouring to preserve his. I have <realy> been so much engaged as not to have had it in my power to write you at the same time as I have done to Mr Peters but being satisfied of his communicating every thing to you I am convinced you will excuse me. PS The only objection I have to giving up anything to a Bishop or Vicar is the bad precedent but it would be better to give up a <….  of … ….> all.
