Letter – Nicholas Walton to William Corbett – 10 May 1737

                                                                                  Ravensworth Castle  May 10th 1737

Sir

	We were favioured with yours with the minutes of the Board dated 4th May 1737 which we duely Observe

	Mr Greive the Sherrif for the County of Northumberland is now at London to whom we have wrote this post to know what part of the Money he has Levyed for which the Extent was sent down and we have desired him to wait upon you and Informe you what he has done in that affair

	Mr Dentons Letter is a very Surprizing one if he means that we have Refused the Rent Due from Mr Blackett as we never did refused it, but we refused the payment of Coastley Tyth when it was first Demanded, till we had an Opportunity of Acquainting the Board & that being done & the Directors ordering us to pay the Same if it appeared to be due, we acquaintd Mr Blacketts Agent therewith who after the Extent was Sent down Offered to Settle with us, but as the Extent was only for a part of what was returned in our list we mutually agreed to Deferr Settling till we acquainted the Board wch we did the 17th April last.  We have therefore Sir Deferred Giving Mr Denton any answer as we are at a loss what to Say to him the Extent not being for the Totall of the Arrear & we quite Strangers how it happens to be so.  we will therefore wait your further Orders before we give him any answer at all

	Inclosed we send you our Cash Accot for last Month on which remains a ballance in our of £1802.2.4 One Thousand whereof we have a promise of a Bill for the latter End of this week or beginning of next wch Shall be sent to the Treasurer as Soon as we receive it and the other eight hundred we will Either retain in our hands for payment of the Interest due to Lord Peter (for which we expect a Demand Daily) or returne it to the Treasurer whether the Directors think fit.

	We have made no Contingent payments on Accot of the Hospitall Since the 14th Novr last to the 1st May Inst without order of the Board except Such as are in the Inclosed Accot amounting to £8.12.4 and those were all made before the order of the 5th January last came to this place except 10s all which we humbly hope the Directors will allow of.  The Expence of Court keeping we think hard to be upon us, therefore we humbly begg leave to acquaint the Directors with the Expence thereof being Incerted in the Same paper with our Contingent payments and hope they will also allow the Same to be Charged in the Month of May Inst.

Inclosed you have Mr Greives reasons for not Inserting the Clause about the Sale of the <dues> of Lead Oare for this present year or any Succeeding Year to George Liddell Esqr
