Ravensworth Castle. March 13. 1740 To Wm. Corbett Esq. Sir We reced. a Letter last post from Mr. Radley in which he Informs us there has been Severall offers made for the Derwentwater Woods. That £4000 has been declared the best offer for all those in Northumberland & 4100 for those at and about Keswick in Cumberland. These Sums verry much fall short of the valuation & we are Sorry to say Under the Real worth at least £2000 - but as Mr Radley says any Person may yett make further offers. we hope Some more will be made for it is a Shame those Woods should be Sold so low. It is not we apprehend proipewr for us to be any way concerned in this Sale, if it were, we are [struck out: ‘pretty’] verry Confident, that it might be Sold at or about our valuation, & it realy greaves us to See the Hospitall so great Sufferers. We have wrote pretty fully this day to Mr Radley on this head & we wish we Coud be put in a way of Acting in it for the benefit of the Hospital. & We are Sir Your most Hble Servts. Nich. Walton
